Math: Today students wrote their data management math test. Students are also practicing time management during a test, as well as problem-solving.

Year Ahead Day: December 5, 2017 
SJA is excited to announce that Year Ahead Day is happening again this year! All SJA PYP students will be participating in this exciting event on Tuesday, December 5th. Year Ahead Day is a fun and interactive day for the students at SJA to spend a day in the class of the grade level ahead of them For example, SK students will spend their day as Grade 1 students, and Grade 6 students will spend their day as Grade 7 students. This is a great way for the students at SJA to get a glimpse into their future life at SJA! Students can get to know the teachers, see their future classroom, and take part in activities they will be participating in next year. On Tuesday, our class will be in
Mr. Foster's Grade One Classroom.

Phonics: Today, the students completed an activity to differentiate between the Long “Ee/Ea” sound and the Short “E/e” sound.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today students reviewed sorting, classifying, graphs, tally marks, and probability. Students are recalling that they start filling in the graph at the bottom, and how to determine which choice is more or less popular. If additional information is collected, students are able to describe how this changes the graph. Students practiced completing their math independently, in order to prepare for the test tomorrow.




Science: We put the finishing touches on our Science Fair Project. Stay tuned for more pictures of the final product tomorrow!

Phonics: Today, the students reviewed the Long “Ee/Ea” sound, action and song. We also rehearsed our song “A Porcupine in a Pine Tree” for the Christmas Concert.

Journals: Today, students drew pictures and completed a journal entry to describe what their family does in winter.



Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today students reviewed how to interpret information in bar graphs, and to find the total for each column. Students are recalling that they start filling in the graph at the bottom, and how to determine which choice is more or less popular. If additional
information is collected, students are able to describe how this changes the graph.

Unit of Inquiry: Students were excited to participate in our Popcorn Sensory Activity. They were able to describe the popcorn using their five senses. They especially enjoyed discovering how the popcorn tasted.

Day 56

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Sianna. Great job Sianna!


Phonics: Today, the students were introduced to the Long “Ee/Ea” sound, action and song. Students watched two videos called “Geraldine learns the /ee/ sound” and “Geraldine learns the /ea/ sound.” Students brainstormed a list of words that contain this sound.

Museum: We visited the Grade 5 Museum of Ancient Civilizations. We learned a lot from both exhibits, and were able to ask lots of questions.













Lunch/ Recess 1

Journals: Students created entries that started with “At the museum…” and used their senses to describe what they saw and heard, and the artifacts that they were able to touch.





Math: Today students reviewed how to construct bar graphs, and to find the total for each column. Students are recalling that they start filling in the graph at the bottom, and how to determine which choice is more or less popular. Students also practiced sorting and classifying, by adding objects to a group, or by deciding which object does not belong. It is important for students to continue to identify the sorting rule when looking at a group of objects.
