Phonics: Today, students reviewed Long Vowel and Short Vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u). Please select a total of six words from the Long and Short Vowel lists for Words of the Week.




Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students practiced writing addition sentences both vertically and horizontally. Students completed an activity that involved creating their own addition sentences and representing them visually using domino squares.






Unit of Inquiry: Today, students explored different community helpers. Students drew pictures to demonstrate what community helper they would like to be when they grow up.

Phonics: Today, students reviewed Short Vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u) and generated a list. Please select six words from this list or the Long Vowel list for Words of the Week.

Journals: Today, students used pictures and words to record some of the short vowel sounds that we had reviewed.




Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students reviewed how addition sentences can be written vertically or horizontally, and practiced writing addition sentences vertically. Review packages will be sent home prior to the test on February 2nd




Unit of Inquiry: Our new Unit of Inquiry is How We Organize Ourselves. This unit looks at how a community is made up of a team of different people working together, in order to establish a common purpose. Today we read a book called “Franklin’s Neighbourhood.” We discussed some of the important people and places in our own neighbourhoods.

Math: Today, students reviewed addition strategies that we were learning in December. Students also practiced their Mental Math skills by participating in an “Addition Bee.” Review packages will be sent home prior to the test on February 2nd

Day 74

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Assembly: Today, we had a special Awards Assembly. Izyan and Neel received our Communicator Awards for the month of December. Congratulations Izyan and Neel!




Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Mateo. Great job Mateo!



Phonics: Today, students reviewed the Long and Short “U/u” sounds. Then Krish, Armaan, and Jack completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!





Spelling: Today, students completed their monthly spelling test. Students are developing strategies for sounding out and recording the sounds that they hear. Students are also finding ways to focus their attention when given a specific task. Well done everyone!

Reading Buddy Movie Theatre: Today as a special treat, our Reading Buddies came to visit us for a Christmas story and movie. We compared the book and the movie of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” When we made a comparison, we found that there were both similarities and differences.

Spirit Wear: We had some great outfits today for Red, White, and Green Day! Our class also placed 3rd in the Door Decorating Competition. Great job SK students!!
